FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Pricing, privacy, timers, and what the free session includes. Platform pages have a few questions of their own.

What is a one-way video interview?

A one-way (or asynchronous) video interview is a recorded interview with no live interviewer. You see a question on screen, get a short time to prepare, then record your answer within a time limit. Employers review the recordings later. Platforms like HireVue, Spark Hire, Willo, Harver, and Jobma are commonly used for this.

How is this different from practicing with a friend or in front of a mirror?

A friend reacts to you; a one-way interview doesn't. The pressure comes from the countdown, the single take, and talking to a camera with no feedback. OneShot recreates exactly those conditions, then gives you structured feedback a friend usually can't: STAR coverage, relevance, and a count of every filler word.

Is my video really not uploaded?

Yes. The video is recorded and played back in your browser and is not uploaded. Chrome and Edge can transcribe with the browser speech service. In Chrome that service is Google's, and we never receive the audio. Safari often cannot caption live, and Firefox does not. In those browsers you type or paste the answer. We send the transcript text, not the video, only when a scoring key is configured. We do not store that text on our server. Google and the model provider may keep their own copy under their policies. We do not control those retention periods.

Are the questions the exact ones I'll get?

No, and no honest tool can promise that. Employers write and change their own questions. Our question banks reflect the types of questions candidates commonly report for each industry and format, so you'll practice the patterns: motivation, teamwork, conflict, failure, "why this firm," and so on.

Are the timers the same as the real platform?

Each employer configures its own settings, so timers vary. We use common default setups for each platform (for example, a short prep countdown and a 1 to 3 minute answer window) and let you adjust them to match your invitation email if it lists specific times.

Can I use this during a real interview?

No. OneShot is for preparation only. Please don't use it, or any AI tool, during a live or recorded interview. That's against most employers' rules and could cost you the job.

What do I get for free?

One full practice session, with all features included and no credit card required. If it helps, you can buy more sessions starting at $7.

Do I need to install anything?

No install. Use a desktop or laptop browser, and allow the camera and microphone if you want a local recording. Live captions work in Chrome and Edge. Safari can record, but captions are unreliable, so type the answer. Firefox does not caption live here; type or paste. Phone browsers are not a supported setup.

Is OneShot affiliated with HireVue, Spark Hire, or other platforms?

No. OneShot Interview is an independent practice tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any interview platform or employer.
