Banking video interview questions
Banking video interview questions, and how to approach them
Banks often use a one-way video interview for graduate and analyst applications. The questions are written by the employer, and they change. What stays consistent is the pattern: why banking, why this firm, a story about pressure or analysis, and how you take feedback.
The questions below are examples for practice. They are not from any bank's interview and they are not a claim about what you will be asked. HireVue is a common platform in this industry, though it is not the only one. Set the timers to whatever your invitation says.
1. Why are you interested in banking, and why this firm?
How to approach it: Separate the industry from the firm. One sentence on the work, then something specific about this bank.
2. Walk us through a recent business or market story you have followed, and why it mattered.
How to approach it: Pick one story you actually understand. What happened, who it affected, and what you took from it. Do not recite a headline.
3. Tell us about a time you worked under pressure to meet a deadline.
How to approach it: Name the deadline, what was at risk, the choice you made, and whether you hit it.
4. Describe a time you analyzed a complicated problem and reached a recommendation.
How to approach it: Show the inputs you used, the options you compared, and the recommendation. Spend more time on your reasoning than on the setting.
5. Tell us about a time you received critical feedback.
How to approach it: Do not defend yourself on camera. Say what the feedback was, what you changed, and what improved.
6. How do you prioritize when several tasks are all urgent?
How to approach it: Give the rule you use (deadline, impact, dependency), then one example where you applied it.
7. Describe a time you worked on a team where people disagreed.
How to approach it: Show that you understood the other view, then what you did to move the work forward.
8. Why should we hire you for this program?
How to approach it: Two proof points tied to the role, then stop. A list of adjectives will not land.
The platform candidates in this field often meet is covered on our HireVue practice page. For the method behind the answers, read STAR method for video interviews.
